PHOTOGRAPHY MENTORING
Learn photography with Big Mark
Learn at your pace
I still love teaching people photography. While I have retired from professional photography, I continue to offer paid one-to-one mentoring shaped around your experience, your camera and what you want to achieve.
Sessions are practical, relaxed and judgement-free. You do not need expensive equipment or an existing technical vocabulary. We start with what you already know and work from there.
- Understanding your camera and exposure
- Composition and making stronger photographs
- Natural light and off-camera lighting
- Editing and developing a practical workflow
- Honest, useful feedback on your photographs
- A specific technique, problem or project you want help with
Mentoring can take place online through Zoom or Google Meet, or in person in Wellington where my limited mobility allows.

How mentoring works
There is no fixed programme you have to follow. Before the session, we will talk about what you want help with and agree on a useful focus. You can bring your camera, photographs, questions or a project you are working through.
The goal is not to overwhelm you with settings and jargon. It is to help you understand what you are doing, make decisions with more confidence and leave with something you can keep practising.
“My experience with Big Mark was one of great learning and good company. I felt listened to and respected, which helped me feel comfortable in the learning environment. With Big Mark’s calm and simplified teaching approach, I gained a much deeper knowledge of how to use my camera.”
Sessions are paid and arranged individually. Get in touch with what you would like to learn, and I will let you know whether I can help and suggest a sensible next step.
