FOR SOLE TRADERS, SERVICE BUSINESSES & SMALL TEAMS

Websites for small businesses

I design and build websites for sole traders, service businesses and small teams across Aotearoa New Zealand, helping you work out what the website needs and bring everything together properly.

I understand how small businesses work

I have spent most of my working life in small businesses or in jobs where getting the details right mattered.

I started in hospitality, where you learn quickly that good service is not about making a big speech. It is about paying attention, understanding what someone needs and making sure the work gets done properly.

I later spent fifteen years working in conferences and events. That meant managing deadlines, suppliers, venues, clients, changing information and hundreds of small details that all had to come together at the right time.

Then I started Big Mark.

I have now been running my own business for more than fifteen years. I know what it is like to answer enquiries, prepare quotes, do the work, solve problems and keep everything else moving at the same time.

That experience shapes how I build websites.

I pay attention. I ask questions. I keep track of the details. And I understand that the website is important, but it is only one part of the business you are running.

How I help small businesses

You know your work, your customers and the questions people ask. My role is to understand that knowledge and turn it into a website.

That includes:

  • guiding you through working out what the website needs to do
  • deciding which pages and features are genuinely useful
  • planning how people will move through the website
  • helping organise the information, writing and images
  • designing and building the website
  • testing everything and showing you how it works

Some businesses need a few strong pages and a clear way to get in touch. Others need portfolios, bookings, ecommerce, regular articles or structured information that can be updated over time.

We work that out before charging into the build.

Content people can understand and use

A website cannot do much with vague claims and a list of services. People need enough information to understand what you do, whether you can help them and what they should do next.

I help work out what belongs on each page, which questions need answering and where more detail would be useful. We can improve the material you already have, create new content where it has been included in the project or arrange specialist help when it is needed.

That may include:

  • explaining your services in plain language
  • answering common customer questions
  • showing examples of your work
  • using testimonials and other useful proof
  • introducing the people behind the business
  • making it easy to enquire, call, book or buy

The best source material usually comes from the business itself. My job is to help find it, organise it and turn it into a website other people can understand.

The technical work matters too

SEO, AEO, structured data, accessibility and performance are all part of modern website work.

I will explain what matters for your website, why it matters and take care of the technical side.

That includes building pages with a clear structure, making the website responsive across different screen sizes, considering accessibility from the beginning and helping search engines and AI systems understand the information on the page.

Nobody can promise how Google, ChatGPT or another system will present your business. What I can do is build the website properly, provide clear information and give it a fair chance of being understood.

Easy to manage after launch

Your website should not become another difficult system that only the person who built it understands.

I will help decide what you need to update, what can remain simple and which platform is the right fit for the website.

Before launch, I test the important pages, forms, links and features. I also show you how the website works and how to manage the parts you are responsible for.

After launch, you can look after it yourself or ask me for help when you need it.

A clear path to launch

I guide the work from the first conversation through content, structure, design, build, review and launch.

I explain the options, make recommendations and keep the decisions clear, so you know what is happening, what I need from you and what comes next.

My role is to take what you know about your business and turn it into a website other people can understand and use.
