That gives you a starting point rather than a blank screen.

Flint

Flint is Rocketspark's AI website assistant. Rocketspark says it can help plan site structure, create pages, draft content and support SEO setup.

I still think you need to decide what the website is for and what it should say, but Flint can give you something to work from.

The technical side is managed

Hosting is included, and Rocketspark says it handles SSL, backups, security and system updates as part of the platform.

That removes several technical jobs that would otherwise need to be managed separately.

Support

Rocketspark offers phone and email support, along with help guides and other support resources.

Community and not-for-profit support

Rocketspark says it supports hundreds of not-for-profits, and that its support for those organisations is ongoing.

I like seeing a platform make room for that kind of work.

Ecommerce

Rocketspark includes ecommerce tools for building and running an online store as part of the platform.

For businesses that want their website and store in one system, that can keep things simpler.

Support for designers

One thing I have really appreciated about Rocketspark is the support they provide for designers using the platform. They run free events, workshops and online sessions that are not just about selling Rocketspark, but about helping designers do better work and run better businesses.

I recently joined their How to Prove Your Websites are Working online session and got a huge amount out of it. What I enjoyed most, though, was getting the chance to talk with other web designers from around New Zealand, compare experiences and hear how other people approach their work. Working independently can sometimes be fairly isolated, so having Rocketspark actively create opportunities like that is something I genuinely value.

I think Rocketspark is particularly worth looking at for New Zealand small businesses and organisations that want a good website without becoming responsible for much of the technology behind it.

Rocketspark handles hosting, backups and system updates, while site owners can manage their own content.

It is also a platform I would be comfortable discussing with clients who want something straightforward to manage.

Rocketspark is a managed platform, so the website is built and hosted inside Rocketspark. Rocketspark says its proprietary CMS does not provide a file downloader, so the site itself cannot simply be downloaded and moved to another host.

If you move to another platform later, expect some rebuilding or manual migration of the site.

If the website needs highly specialised functionality or an unusual technical setup, check those requirements before choosing the platform.

Rocketspark currently says its ecommerce tools do not support selling to customers in the United States because of US sales-tax requirements. If the US is an important ecommerce market, that is a significant limitation.

Wix

Wix offers a broad range of templates, business tools and apps, including options for bookings and ecommerce.

Squarespace offers customisable templates and tools for portfolios, services and online stores.
